Start with the part that trips most people up: none of these will work as your Discord username. Discord rebuilt that system in 2023, and usernames now take lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Nothing else. Paste a glitched name into that field and it simply refuses to save.
Your display name is a different story. It accepts the full Unicode range, and so do server nicknames and your About Me. Those three fields are where every name below belongs.
We tested each one in all three places, on desktop and on the Android app. Anything that stretched a row oddly, got cut off, or failed to save did not make the list.
Where glitched names actually work on Discord

The server nickname is the underrated one. It only applies inside that server, so you can run something heavy in a horror server and keep a plain name everywhere else.
Why every name here stays under 32 characters
Discord counts characters, not letters. A combining mark is its own character even though it sits on top of the letter before it.
So C̷o̷n̷t̷a̷i̷n̷m̷e̷n̷t̷B̷r̷e̷a̷c̷h̷ looks like seventeen letters. Discord reads thirty-four, and the limit rejects it. That single detail is behind most “why won’t this save” complaints we see.
Every name below went through a character count first. The longest is 26. Most land near 20, which leaves you a few spare characters if you want to bracket the name with a symbol.
Horror and creepypasta servers
These lean on the language of lost media and incident reports. They sit well in SCP-style servers, ARG servers, and anywhere the running joke is that something is wrong with the archive.

Matching the name to the server
A name that kills in a creepypasta server looks try-hard in a study group. The categories above are a starting point rather than a rule, but two things are worth keeping in mind.
First, read the room’s existing names. If everyone else is running plain text, a heavily distorted name reads as attention-seeking rather than atmospheric. If half the member list is already glitched, you need something distinctive rather than something loud.
Second, think about how often people will need to type your name. Moderators, event organisers and anyone who gets pinged a lot are better served by a lighter name. Nobody can retype combining marks from memory, and they will end up copying your name out of the member list every single time.
Testing a name without losing it
Change your display name first, not your server nickname. Display name edits are instant and you can undo them from the same screen.
Then look at it in three places before committing. The member list on the right, a message in a busy channel, and your own profile card. The member list is the harshest of the three because it uses the smallest text on the page, and a name that looks sharp on your profile can turn into a smudge there.
On mobile, check a DM thread as well. Android and iOS fall back to different fonts when a glyph is missing, so a name that renders cleanly on your phone can show boxes on someone else’s. When that happens it is a font gap on their device, not a problem with the name.
One accessibility note
Screen readers announce combining marks. A name with heavy stacking gets read aloud as a long string of nonsense every time someone using one passes over your message.
That is not a reason to avoid glitched names, but it is a reason to keep them short and to keep your About Me mostly readable. A light display name paired with a plain bio costs you nothing visually and keeps the server usable for everyone in it.

Do these work on mobile?
Yes. Every name here was checked on the Android app. Rendering differs slightly between iOS and Android because the fallback fonts differ, but the text itself carries across intact.
Do I need Nitro for this?
No. Display names, server nicknames and About Me are free features. Nitro raises the message character limit, which has nothing to do with any of this.
Can I edit or combine two of these?
You can, though pasting a glitched name into a box and typing extra letters leaves you with a name that is half distorted. It is cleaner to type the combined word into the generator so the distortion applies evenly across the whole thing.
Why does my name show boxes on someone else’s screen?
Their device has no font covering that character, so it falls back to an empty box. Older Android builds do this most often. A lighter style with fewer stacked marks usually renders everywhere.
